Capital Projects is responsible for the design and construction of capital infrastructure within the county.
The Legacy Trail
On Nov. 6, 2018, Sarasota County voters approved a referendum to acquire and improve The Legacy Trail extension railroad corridor as a safe trail for walking, running and cycling. The nearly 8-mile extension will also enhance connectivity from North Port through Venice to downtown Sarasota, and include improvements such as crossings, overpasses at Clark Road and Bee Ridge Road, amenities and increased accessibility.
South County Courts/R. L. Anderson Building Remodel
The new South County Courts/R. L. Anderson Building Remodel includes construction of a new, two-story, four-court, courthouse and ancillary spaces to serve the 12th Judicial Circuit Court, the Clerk of the Circuit Court and County Comptroller, and Court Administration. In anticipation of future growth, the building was designed to allow for two additional courtrooms for a future total of six courtrooms. The new building will be located on the campus of the existing R. L. Anderson Building, 4000 S. Tamiami Trail, Venice. to learn more about this project.
Desoto Area Sidewalk
Long awaited sidewalks being installed in the Desoto Area neighborhoods bringing pedestrian safety and aesthetics to the community. Over 5-miles of sidewalk with handrails being installed, and in some areas an increased footage of sidewalk from 5’ to 8’ for cyclists and walkers alike. Road repair also included in areas of need. This includes segments of Desoto Road from Lockwood Ridge Road to University Parkway. Sr. Inspector, John Bona, was on-site to ensure quality assurance.

Venice Public Library
This newest Sarasota County library opened Dec. 15, 2018, and is located on the Venice Cultural Campus, 300 Nokomis Ave. S. A large meeting room to accommodate 135 people, a Friends of the Library Bookstore, a Children's Storytime Room and a Teen Center are just some of this library's features.
